Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has emphasized that projects and programs costing less than Rs 30 million should not be included in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
He conveyed this stance during separate discussions with officials from the Ministry of Water Supply and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration while preparing the next fiscal year's budget.
Paudel urged ministries to move away from the practice of including numerous small schemes in the budget. Instead, he stressed the need to prioritize large-scale, transformative, and nationally significant projects that are already well-prepared.
He also underscored the importance of increasing the role of provincial and local governments in executing projects within their capacity. He suggested that such projects be transferred to the respective levels for implementation, with the option of providing one-time seed capital if necessary.
The meeting was attended by Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav, Federal Affairs Minister Raj Kumar Gupta, National Planning Commission Vice Chairman Shivaraj Adhikari, and senior officials including the Finance Secretary, Revenue Secretary as well as secretaries of the Water Supply and Federal Affairs ministries. -- RSS
