The president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) will now be elected through direct voting.
On Tuesday, December 10, a special general assembly called to amend the charter of the country’s top private sector body passed the proposal. However, the provision for the direct election of the president will only take effect once the current Senior Vice President, Anjan Shrestha, assumes the position.
FNCCI President Chandra Prasad Dhakal informed that the special general assembly decided to move forward with direct elections for selecting the president. “Although the proposal included having two district and municipal vice-presidents, as well as two senior vice-presidents, the assembly decided to have just one senior vice-president,” Dhakal told New Business Age. “Additionally, the term of office has been reduced from three to two years.”
