On Wednesday, both former NEA Managing Director Kulman Ghising and newly appointed Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya approached the Supreme Court with different legal matters.
Ghising filed a petition challenging his dismissal, arguing that the government illegally removed him from his position. His representative submitted the application to the Supreme Court at around 5 p.m. on Wednesday, naming the Government of Nepal, the Ministry of Energy, and NEA as defendants. He claimed that he was wrongfully dismissed by receiving zero marks in his performance evaluation despite fulfilling his duties. Ghising’s writ petition is expected to be formally filed on Thursday.
Shakya, on the other hand, filed a writ seeking a resolution to a previous case. The Cabinet had removed Shakya from NEA on August 9, 2021, appointing Ghising for a second term. Shakya, who was initially appointed for four years in January-February 2020, had challenged his removal in the Supreme Court. Since the case has remained unresolved for over two years, he has requested the court to expedite its decision.
