A French citizen died while attempting to climb Mt Kanchanjungha, the world’s third-highest mountain at 8,586 meters.
The climber has been identified as 63-year-old Margareta Morin. She and her friend had obtained climbing permits from the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. They began their ascent from the southern route at Sirijungha Rural Municipality-8 on May 9 and had reached an altitude of around 8,000 meters by 11:00 p.m. on May 10.
According to tourist guide Yogendra Tamang, who was accompanying them, Morin died while ascending the mountain after suffering from respiratory problems. -- RSS
