The government has decided to allocate a budget for post-disaster recovery after assessing the damage caused by recent floods and landslides at the local level. Unveiling the decisions made during Monday’s Cabinet meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, stated that the extent of loss varies with some areas having suffered significant damage, while others have been less affected. “The government will allocate the budget based on the damage assessment," he added.
The minister, who is also the government spokesperson, noted that the number of severely affected local units, currently at 41, could increase. The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to provide comprehensive loss details to the government within a few days.
Additionally, the Council of Ministers has also approved a temporary quota of 266 Gazetted positions for various projects under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. The Cabinet gave consent for the participation of the Minister for Youth and Sports in the 'XXI International Sports Forum Russia – Country of Sports' event to be held in Russia from October 17-19.
In another decision, the government has approved the opening of 57 additional mountain peaks for climbing. Furthermore, the Council of Ministers endorsed the organizational setup and staffing for the Department of Postal Services and its subsidiaries, as well as the Telecommunications (Tenth Amendment) Regulations, 2081.
The Cabinet meeting also approved the participation of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development in the World Urban Forum-12, to be held in Cairo, Egypt, from November 4-8. The Minister for Health and Population has been cleared to attend the 'Community Health Delivery Partnership Event During the World Health Summit-2024' in Berlin, Germany, on October 13.
The Cabinet also approved the Share and Credit Investment Policy, 2081, and the Seeds Regulations, 2081. -- RSS
