Starting Sunday, November 24, a Nepali citizen will be charged Rs 200 to climb the Dharahara, the 72-metre high iconic tower in the heart of Kathmandu.
However, Nepali students, senior citizens, children, and people with disabilities will receive a 50 percent discount.
Earlier on September 19, the government had opened Dharahara for public visits, allowing free entry to the tower, marking the constitutional day.
According to the Special Structure Operation and Management Development Committee (Formation) Order, 2081, the Ministry of Urban Development had proposed a fee of Rs 500 per person for tourists from SAARC countries and 1,000 rupees for visitors from non-SAARC countries in a cabinet meeting held last Thursday, reported reported RSS, the state-owned news agency. With the approval of the proposal, the ministry has announced that the new fee structure will be effective Sunday onwards.
Similarly, parking fees for vehicles at Dharahara have been fixed at Rs 20 per hour for four-wheelers and Rs 10 per hour for two-wheelers.
Additionally, the fees for advertisements of national importance (excluding commercial ads) on the Dharahara tower, and for commercial video filming in the Dharahara premises will be Rs 5,000 per hour each, and that for the photography will be Rs 1,000.
