April 2: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Chitra Bahadur KC, have said that Government is bringing a new Act for regularising the cooperatives.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Bakhan Cooperatives Ltd, Nepal's first cooperative institution, to mark 59th Cooperative Day at Sharadanagar in west Chitwan on Saturday, he said that the people's money should be protected and irregularities that have been taking place in the name of cooperatives will be checked after the new legislation is implemented.
He said that the genuine poor have not still been benefited by the cooperatives as the cooperatives are not effective and systematic. The DPM stated that he is positive to the locals' demand that the country's first cooperative be turned into a cooperative museum.
Secretary at the Ministry of Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Shankar Prasad Adhikari said the Bakhan Cooperatives could be turned into a national-level museum.Co-chairman of the National Cooperatives Development Board Saroj Kumar Sharma stressed that the cooperatives should be run as per the existing laws, adding that the cooperatives could be the basis for the country's economic development.
Chairman of the Bakhan Cooperatives Ltd., Mohan Singh Lama underlined the need of turning the cooperative into a museum. RSS
