Nepal’s imports increased by 1.08 percent, but the export dropped 5.12 percent between mid-July to mid-September this year compared to the same period last year, the latest Foreign Trade Statistics of the Department of Customs show.
While importing the goods worth Rs 262.54 billion, the country could export goods only amounting to Rs 25.09 billion in the period.
Similarly, Nepal incurred a trade deficit of Rs 237.44 billion in the period, which was 1.78 percent more than that in the same period last fiscal year.
Diesel, petrol and Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) continued to remain Nepal’s top imports. While the country imported more petrol and LPG, diesel import declined.
Nepal imported 144,724 kilolitre of diesel, 120,130 kilolitre of petrol and 88,538 tonnes of LPG worth Rs 13.64 billion, Rs 11.06 billion and Rs 9.42 billion, respectively in two months this year, compared to 151,372 kilolitre of diesel, 112,182 of petrol and 88,271 tonnes of LPG worth Rs 15.74 billion, Rs 11.30 billion and Rs 7.32 billion, respectively, the customs data show.
