SPG Automobiles, the official distributor of Jaecoo vehicles in Nepal, has launched the Jaecoo J6, marking the introduction of the first electric off-roader to the Nepali market. Designed by Chinese automotive giant Chery, the Jaecoo J6 is a unique addition to Nepal's rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) segment.
Jaecoo, a brand established by Chery in 2023, targets international markets and is positioned alongside Chery’s successful Omoda brand, which has already made its mark in Nepal with the Omoda E5 EV. The Jaecoo J6 debuted globally at the 2024 Malaysia Autoshow, where its rugged design, reminiscent of the Land Rover Defender, garnered widespread attention.
Unlike the crossover EVs commonly seen in Nepal, the Jaecoo J6 distinguishes itself as a true off-road-capable SUV. It is built to handle challenging terrains as well as everyday driving. The car was unveiled at the NADA Auto Show 2024 with an introductory price of Rs 6.99 million.
Performance and Specifications
The Jaecoo J6 is powered by a 135 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which produces 183.5 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. Equipped with a 65.69 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery, it offers a driving range of 400 km on a full charge under the WLTP standard. Charging options include a 7.2 kW AC charger, which fully recharges the battery in 10 hours, and a DC fast charger, which can boost the battery from 30% to 80% in just 30 minutes. The vehicle’s top speed is 150 km/h, with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, positioning it among the faster electric SUVs in the market. The car's all-aluminium structure enhances its strength-to-weight ratio, contributing to improved fuel efficiency, handling, and overall performance.
Design and Features
Measuring 4406 mm in length, 1910 mm in width and 1715 mm in height, the Jaecoo J6 has a bold, commanding appearance. The exterior features a wide grille, sleek projector headlights, and rugged front bumper cladding. Its boxy body, 19-inch alloy wheels, and 200 mm ground clearance speak volumes about its off-road capability.
Inside, the Jaecoo J6 offers a premium feel with leatherette seats, a 15.6-inch infotainment system, a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-speaker Infinity Sound System. Safety features include airbags, ABS, Vehicle Stability Control, L2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera.
Availability and Future Prospects
Currently, the Jaecoo J6 is available in a rear-wheel-drive variant in Nepal. Although an all-wheel-drive version is available in markets like Malaysia, Thailand, South Africa and Australia, it will not be offered in Nepal. Available in Grey, Green, Silver, Black and White colour options, the Jaecoo J6 caters to drivers looking for both adventure and style in an eco-friendly SUV.
