The government has appointed Madan Dahal, joint secretary at the Ministry of Finance, as the acting chairman of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).
Dahal, the second-ranking member of the NIA’s Board of Directors, was given this responsibility under Section 6 of the Insurance Act, 2079 BS.
The decision follows the suspension of NIA Chairman Surya Prasad Silwal, who is facing a case filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) in the Special Court for submitting fraudulent date of birth. As per the law, Silwal's position was automatically suspended upon the filing of the case.
Dahal will serve as the acting chairman until further notice.
