Santosh Koirala has been elected as the president of Nepal Bankers Association (NBA), an umbrella body of commercial banks in Nepal. He is the current vice-president of the association and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Machhapuchhre Bank.
Koirala was unanimously elected as the president after Prabhu Bank CEO Ashok Sherchan withdrew his candidacy, informed Anil Sharma, the association's CEO. The formal announcement will be made at the general meeting of the association on Wednesday.
After the end of Sunil KC's term, Koirala and Sherchan had staked claim to the post. However, former presidents of NBA forged an understanding among the two candidates to unanimously elect Koirala the president.
Global IME Bank’s CEO Surendra Regmi has been unanimously elected the vice-president. He will assume the role of vice president once the post will be vacated after Koirala becomes the president.
Similarly, Everest Bank's Sudesh Khaling, Kumari Bank's Ramchandra Khanal, and Nepal Bank's Tilak Raj Pandey have also won the three vacant positions of NBA’s executive committee membership.
