In a significant boost to the tourism sector, Koshi Province is set to witness the addition of five new five-star hotels, with a total investment of Rs 11 billion. This development underscores the growing confidence in the region's tourism potential and economic prospects.
Currently, three five-star hotels are operational in Koshi Province: Mechi Crown and Kingsbury in Jhapa, and Soaltee Westend in Itahari. These hotels have already attracted substantial investments, totaling Rs 5.25 billion. The new additions, including Eastern Grand in Jhapa, Ramada in Itahari, Lemon Tree in Biratnagar, Century, and a hotel of Durga Prasai, are expected to further enhance the region's hospitality offerings.
The tourism sector in Koshi Province is experiencing a significant influx of investments, with the total amount reaching Rs 60 billion. This surge is attributed to the government's supportive policies and the post-COVID recovery of the tourism industry.
Bhawish Shrestha, senior vice president of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Association Koshi and co-coordinator of Koshi Tourism Year 2082, highlighted the positive impact of these investments on the local economy.
Despite the positive outlook, the sector faces challenges such as tax issues and regulatory hurdles. Rajan Shrestha, the president of the Hotel Entrepreneurs Association Koshi, emphasized the need for tax relief and extended entry permits for Indian tourists to boost the industry further. He also pointed out the difficulties faced by Indian tourists in using higher denomination currency notes and the need for smoother digital payment options.
The addition of these new hotels is expected to create more jobs and enhance the overall tourism experience in Koshi Province. With the potential to accommodate up to 4,000 tourists in Ilam's Kanyam alone, the region is poised to become a major tourist destination. The growing number of hotels, combined with improved infrastructure and services, will undoubtedly attract more domestic and international tourists.
The expansion of the hospitality sector in Koshi Province is a testament to the region's growing appeal as a tourist destination. With significant investments and government support, Koshi is set to become a key player in Nepal's tourism industry, offering world-class accommodations and experiences to visitors from around the globe.
