Efforts are underway to acquire 110 ropanis (approximately 5 hectares) of land in Sarkegad Rural Municipality, Humla for the construction of a 400/132 kV substation.
This facility will play a pivotal role in integrating 2,500 MW of electricity, to be generated from Humla Karnali and Mugu Karnali, into Nepal’s national transmission grid.
The National Transmission Grid Company has requested assistance from the Humla District Administration Office to facilitate the land acquisition process.
Netra Gyawali, Chief Executive Officer of the company, stated that the Sarkegad substation is vital for connecting electricity generated in the Karnali region to the national grid.
An approximately 220-kilometer-long transmission line is planned to transmit electricity from Humla to Dodhara in Kailali, passing through Kalikot. Currently, construction is underway on the section from Dodhara to Phukot, Kalikot.
Once the land is acquired, the company plans to begin detailed engineering and environmental studies for the 90-kilometer Humla-Kalikot section of the transmission line. Construction is expected to commence within two years of completing these studies.
