Lawmakers have urged the Public Accounts Committee to ensure its directives do not obstruct the issuance of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs).
Speaking at a committee meeting on Tuesday, February 18, lawmakers cautioned that no government agency’s operations should be disrupted due to the committee’s decisions.
Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire emphasized the government must be accountable to the parliament, and government agencies should remain accountable to the government. He stated that no directive or letter from a parliamentary committee should impede government entities from carrying out their duties.
Ghimire further argued that the committee should avoid directly issuing letters to government agencies, as doing so goes against established principles. Citing the case of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), which halted IPO issuance following a committee directive, he stressed that parliamentary committees should not interfere in administrative processes.
Similarly, CPN-UML lawmaker Gokul Prasad Baskota said that committee directives should not disrupt official procedures. He warned against issuing instructions that completely stall ongoing operations.
Referring to reports that IPO issuance had been paused due to the committee’s letter, Baskota urged members to take the matter seriously.
