The agitating LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) bottlers have called off their strike after the government agreed to increase their commission.
The government signed a five-point agreement with the Nepal LPG Industry Association on Tuesday leading to the withdrawal of the industrialists' protest programmes, the state-owned national news agency RSS reported.
As per the agreement, the government has decided to increase the commission for LPG bottlers by 12.75 per cylinder considering the external and internal transportation costs as well as operational and administrative costs.
However, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) clarified that although the commission for the bottlers has been increased, the overall price of cooking gas will not increase.
Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the state-owned oil monopoly said it will adjust the price hike internally and bear the cost burden.
The price of cooking gas per cylinder remains unchanged at Rs 1,910.
With the agreement in place, the bottlers have started to receive purchase delivery orders (PDOs) from the NOC which they had recently halted to exert pressure on the government to raise their commission.
The move is expected to ease the distribution of cooing gas in the market.
A government talks team headed by Commerce Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karkee and had brokered the deal with the agitating bottlers.
