Mahindra, which played a significant role in establishing the electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Nepal during the 2010s, has made a comeback in the country’s EV scene with the launch of the all-electric XUV400.
Agni Incorporated, the official of Mahindra vehicles for Nepal, introduced Mahindra's latest EV model in the Nepali market in the last week of June. Before the Nepali market was flooded with Chinese EVs, it was Agni Incorporated that initially introduced EVs to the country, offering models such as the Reva, e2o Plus, and E-Verito. With the Nepali EV market now expanding rapidly, it is only natural for Mahindra to introduce its EV offerings and cash in on this trend.
The Mahindra XUV400 EV commands attention with its striking front design, featuring a blanked-off grille adorned with eye-catching copper elements and the prominent Mahindra logo. The LED headlamps, tapering towards the edges, give the compact SUV a fierce and assertive look, enhanced by integrated DRLs that add to its contemporary appeal. The robust front bumper, with stylish copper accents, adds a touch of sophistication.
The stylish 16-inch Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels complement the SUV’s confident stance, while the gently sloping roofline, blacked-out pillars and roof rails contribute a modern touch. At the rear, the tailgate features sculpted wrap-around LED taillights that exude boldness, with the Mahindra logo and XUV400 badge centrally placed. The integrated roof spoiler and rear skid plate further enhance its sporty character.
Inside, the XUV400 boasts leatherette seats, complemented by a 10.25-inch infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display with smartwatch and Bluetooth connectivity. The multifunctional three-spoke leather steering wheel adds convenience, while the height-adjustable driver’s seat ensures comfort. The vehicle is available in four colours: White, Black, Grey and Blue.
The Mahindra XUV400 is powered by a 110 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), delivering a maximum power of 149.5 PS and a torque of 310 Nm. It features a 39.4 kWh battery that provides a range of 456 km. Charging from 0% to 100% takes 6 hours and 30 minutes with a 7.2 kW AC charger.
The XUV400 offers three driving modes: Fun, Fast and Fearless. The Fun mode provides a standard driving experience, while the Fearless mode unleashes the full potential of its 110 kW motor. The SUV can achieve a top speed of 150 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds.
With overall dimensions of 4,200 mm in length, 1,821 mm in width, and 1,634 mm in height, the XUV400 features a wheelbase of 2,600 mm, a ground clearance of 190 mm, and a kerb weight of 1,578 kg. The boot offers 378 litres of cargo capacity.
Priced at Rs 5.25 million, the Mahindra XUV400 will compete directly with the Tata Nexon EV Max. The XUV400 features a more powerful 110 kW motor compared to the Nexon EV Max’s 95 kW motor, delivering a maximum torque of 310 Nm, which surpasses the Nexon EV Max’s 250 Nm.
The XUV400 comes with an 8-year (or 160,000 km) warranty on the motor and battery, and a 3-year (or unlimited km) warranty on the vehicle.
