Rajkumar Gupta, Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, has resigned from his position following allegations of involvement in a bribe deal.
Gupta submitted his resignation to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli Tuesday, July 15, according to the state-run RSS news agency.
Pressure for his resignation had intensified after the release of an audio recording allegedly implicating him in a bribery negotiation. Even leaders from within the ruling coalition had called for his removal.
Defending himself on Facebook , Gupta claimed he has become a victim of advanced technology and expressed hope that no one else would have to endure the same ordeal.
“Sometimes, even poison you haven’t consumed can affect you—and I have become a victim of that….I resigned to help uncover the truth through a proper investigation into the allegations,” the post read.
