Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to embark on an official visit to China on Monday, December 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs made the official announcement on Friday, November 29, following the approval from the Cabinet on Thursday.Oli will return to Nepal on Thursday, December 5.
To lay the ground for Oli’s visit, Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba has already reached China. She is expected to return to Kathmandu on November 30, but will join the prime minister’s delegation.
Oli will hold high-level meetings with Chinese leaders, including President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China during the visit.
In addition, Prime Minister Oli will deliver a keynote address at Peking University and address the Nepal-China Business Forum, jointly hosted by the Embassy of Nepal in Beijing, the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI).
Though China has sought an agreement for the implementation of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)-related projects, the ruling parties– CPN (UML) and Nepal Congress are divided over the financing modality.
Congress has opposed any kind of loan agreement.
Badri Pandey, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, told RSS, the state-owned news agency on Thursday that the agenda for the visit was yet to be finalised.
