The monsoon has officially exited the Kathmandu Valley as of Tuesday. The Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology announced that the monsoon has retreated from all areas of Karnali Province, Lumbini Province, Gandaki Province, and the Kathmandu Valley. Some parts of the western region of Bagmati Province and Madhesh Province have also seen the end of the monsoon.
Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane noted that the monsoon winds remain active in Koshi Province and the eastern regions of Bagmati and Madhesh provinces. Meanwhile, the westerly winds are still affecting Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, Sudurpaschim, and the western regions of Bagmati and Madhesh provinces.
Meanwhile, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has released the weather forecast for the period from October 1 to December 31, 2024.
According to the forecast, the southeastern regions of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and the eastern parts of Lumbini Province are expected to receive above-average rainfall during this period. Meanwhile, central and northern Karnali and northern Sudurpaschim provinces are likely to experience below-average rainfall, while the rest of the country is expected to see average rainfall.
Meteorologist Bibhuti Pokharel, an Information Officer at the Department, noted that both maximum and minimum temperatures are predicted to remain above average across most parts of the country.
The southeastern parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are expected to receive significant rainfall, with the northern part of Koshi, western Madhes, and eastern and southern Bagmati likely to see rainfall 45-55% above normal levels.
Similarly, the southern Koshi, western Madhes, northwestern Bagmati, and southeastern Gandaki regions may experience rainfall 35-45% above normal.
In contrast, central and northern Karnali and northern Sudurpaschim are forecasted to have below-average rainfall, ranging from 35-45% of normal levels.
Regarding temperature, the forecast indicates that maximum temperatures could be 45-55% above average in the central and southern parts of Bagmati, western Madhes, central and western Gandaki, central and eastern Lumbini, and eastern and northern Karnali.
In addition, maximum temperatures are expected to be 35-45% above normal in central Koshi, eastern Madhes, and northern Bagmati, with similar temperature trends in the rest of the country. -- RSS
