The Meteorological Forecasting Division, under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, has predicted three days of rain starting Thursday evening. In a special bulletin issued on Wednesday, the division warned of heavy rainfall in some areas and urged the public to stay alert.
Meteorologist Shanti Kandel explained that the monsoon winds are currently active across the country, with the monsoon trough positioned further south than usual. This trough, currently located around Madhya Pradesh in India, is expected to shift northwards, intensifying monsoon activity in Nepal, particularly in the western regions.
Western Nepal is expected to experience rain from Thursday evening through Saturday morning. Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces are forecast to be mostly cloudy, while the rest of the provinces will have partly to generally cloudy conditions.
The bulletin predicts light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning in many parts of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with some areas in the other provinces also likely to experience rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in a few places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim, as well as isolated parts of other provinces over the next three days.
The Division has warned of potential floods and inundation during the night, urging the public to remain cautious. -- RSS
