Monsoon-induced floods and landslides have completely obstructed seven major road sections across various districts in Nepal as of Saturday evening.
According to the Nepal Police Headquarters, road disruptions have been reported in Sankhuwasabha, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Dolpa, Rukum West, Jajarkot, and Bajura districts due to heavy rainfall over the past few days.
Nepal Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Binod Ghimire said the Koshi Highway in Sankhuwasabha district was blocked by a flood in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality. Similarly, the Banepa–Nala–Bhaktapur road section in Kavre district was obstructed following a landslide in Banepa Municipality-4. Authorities have made temporary arrangements for vehicular movement using hume pipes after a bridge in Nala caved in on Saturday.
In Sindhupalchok, a landslide in Kodari, located in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, disrupted traffic along the Araniko Highway, one of the major trading route with China.
Vehicular movement along the Bheri Corridor has also been halted due to flooding at Chhalghat in Tripurasundari Municipality-1 of Dolpa. Additionally, the Jajarkot–Dolpa section of the same corridor has been blocked by a flood in Aathbiskot Municipality-6 of Rukum West.
A landslide in Chhedagad Municipality-3, Jajarkot district, has blocked the Mid-Hill Highway. Likewise, the Martadi–Kolti road section in Bajura was fully obstructed by a landslide at Bhasupatala in Badimalika Municipality-7.
Meanwhile, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Baglung and Gulmi, along with the Sahid Highway in Rolpa, has reopened for one-way traffic after police cleared landslide debris from the roads, Ghimire added.
Authorities informed that efforts are underway to reopen the blocked highways. – With inputs from RSS
