The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has released a 102-point advisory to enhance IT system security in government offices and safeguard against cyber threats.
The advisory, which outlines security measures for websites, applications, servers, networks, devices, and social media, comes amid a surge in cybercrime incidents.
“Negligence and ignorance have caused serious issues,” said NCSC Director Raj Kumar Maharjan, emphasizing the advisory’s aim to raise awareness and mitigate risks.
Key measures include regular updates to websites, security testing, data backups, and using licensed software. Multifactor authentication and strong password practices are also advised, with passwords updated every three months.
The NCSC also warns against posting unauthorized content on social media, sharing personal information, or downloading apps from unreliable sources.
Government ministries and departments have been instructed to appoint focal points for resolving website and application issues. Additionally, regular cybersecurity training for employees has been recommended to ensure effective implementation.
