Ncell has become the first Nepali company to be officially listed as a data center and cloud service provider. The Department of Information Technology (DoIT) made the announcement on Sunday, April 20, following a rigorous evaluation process.
The listing was carried out under the Data Center and Cloud Service (Operations and Management) Directives 2081 . According to the department, Ncell met all the required operational standards and security protocols. The decision came after a direct inspection of the company’s facilities and a comprehensive review of its application and submitted documents.
As per the directives, all data center and cloud service providers operating in Nepal must register with the department within six months of the directive's enforcement. Ncell, however, proactively completed its registration before the deadline. The directive also outlines strict requirements on issues such as cybersecurity, data privacy, and physical infrastructure.
Importantly, the directives mandate separate listings for data center and cloud services. Ncell has now been listed under both categories, making it the first and only company in Nepal to achieve dual certification under the current legal framework.
Ncell currently operates an advanced Tier III data center in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, which is open for use by banks, government institutions, and major commercial organizations. The company has also established disaster recovery data centers in Pokhara and Hetauda to ensure business continuity and data protection.
"We have prioritized cybersecurity and data privacy, adhering to international standards, which helped make the listing process smooth," said Dion Asencio, Chief Business Officer at Ncell. "Given the expanding demand for data center and cloud services in Nepal, this listing is a significant milestone."
