Ncell Foundation, Sathi, and Zonta Club of Kathmandu have collaboratively launched the ‘Orange the School’ campaign to combat gender-based violence. This initiative is part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence and the Zonta International ‘Say No’ campaign. So far, approximately 1,500 students from 10 schools have directly participated in the program.
The campaign aims to educate students and teachers on critical topics, including gender-based violence, child marriage, cyberbullying, cyber security, and data privacy. It seeks to foster awareness about creating safe and equitable environments in schools and beyond.
Bina Rana, president of the Zonta Club of Kathmandu, emphasized the campaign’s importance, stating, “Gender-based violence is a global crisis that violates human rights and hinders progress toward gender equality. Factors such as poverty, discrimination, and climate change further exacerbate vulnerabilities for women and girls. The ‘Orange the School’ campaign seeks to raise awareness in schools and inspire collective efforts to build safe communities. Empowering youth and educating them is crucial to breaking the silence and creating a violence-free future.”
Bishakha Laxmi Khadka, head of Corporate Communications and CSR at Ncell Foundation, highlighted the campaign’s role in addressing the challenges posed by evolving technologies. “The ‘Orange the School’ campaign underscores the significance of early awareness and discussion at the school level. Instilling values of equality and accurate information in young minds can pave the way for a violence-free society. We are proud to introduce vital topics like cyber security and data privacy to students, helping mitigate risks for vulnerable groups. Together, we believe our efforts will yield a lasting impact,” she remarked.
The campaign engages students and teachers through discussions, video screenings, and interactive sessions on pressing issues such as child marriage, cyber security, and domestic violence. These activities aim to empower participants to understand, address, and advocate for solutions to these challenges.
Shriyukta Thapaliya, chairperson of the Committee Against Violence Against Women at the Zonta Club of Kathmandu, commended the collaboration between partner organizations, schools, and students.
“This campaign has amplified its impact by combining resources and expertise. We are grateful to the principals, teachers, and students for their enthusiasm and support. Together, we can break the silence, inspire change, and create a safe environment for women and children,” she said.
The ‘Orange the School’ campaign runs from November 26 to December 10 and is conducting public awareness programs in government and private schools across the Kathmandu Valley.
