The National Examinations Board (NEB) has decided to conduct the Grade 12 examinations as scheduled, starting from April 24.
A meeting of the Board held on Tuesday at Sanothimi confirmed that the exams will proceed on the planned dates and urged students not to be confused by circulating rumors.
Uncertainty had spread among students and parents due to the ongoing protest by the Confederation of Nepalese Teachers, which had announced it would not cooperate in conducting the exams.
Controller of Examinations Krishna Sharma said the Board will ensure the exams take place on time, even if it means mobilizing government employees in the absence of teachers’ cooperation. The NEB has instructed all District Examination Coordination Committees, led by Chief District Officers (CDOs), to manage the exams in their respective districts.
According to the decision, CDOs will deploy civil servants to exam centers if necessary. Available teachers not participating in the protest will be assigned as superintendents and assistant superintendents. Where this is not possible, the CDOs will make alternative arrangements.
The Board has also appealed to protesting teachers to support the smooth conduct of the exams.
Around 500,000 students are expected to take the Grade 12 exams this year. A total of 1,591 examination centers have been arranged, including one in Japan.
To manage the process, NEB is preparing to deploy approximately 2,000 staff, 20,000 security personnel, superintendents, assistant superintendents, and at least one office assistant at each center, depending on the number of examinees. -- RSS
