Nepal secured a dominant 165-run victory over Kuwait in the fifth match of the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, held Tuesday, November 12, at The Sevens Stadium in the UAE.
Captain Puja Mahato delivered an outstanding performance for the Rhinos in both batting and bowling departments. She scored a brilliant 130 runs off 69 balls, and claimed five wickets, making history as the first cricketer from Nepal to achieve both feats in a single match.
Nepal, winning the toss, opted to bat first and posted an imposing total of 213/2 in their 20 overs.
Soni Pakhrin supported Mahato with a solid 43 runs off 33 balls.
Kuwait gifted Nepal 23 extra runs, while Jilani and Raelyn Maria D’Souza were the only wicket for the team.
Chasing a mammoth target, Kuwait were bowled out for 48 runs in 13 overs.
Besides Captain Zeefa Jilani, who top-scored with 36 runs off 42 balls, none made any significant contributions.
Besides Mahato’s five-wicket haul, Rachana Kumari Chaudhary and Seema KC took two wickets each.
Nepal will play next against the UAE on Wednesday, November 13.
Host UAE, Nepal, Kuwait, and Thailand are competing in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier. The table-topper will secure a place in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, set to be held in Malaysia next year.
