Nepal on Thursday (September 12) exported 2,000 kg of vegetables to Qatar.
The vegetables produced, under the agriculture programme supported by China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) Nepal Office, by farmers of Dakshinkali Municipality, Kathmandu were supplied to Qatar in the first phase, according to Mayor Mohan Basnet.
"We handed over the vegetable consignment to Mishal Mohammed Al-Ansari, Qatar’s Ambassador to Nepal, amid a programme held at Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office today," said Basnet.
Among the veggies exported include the red cherry pepper chilli (Akabare), flat beans and bitter gourd.
The export is expected to encourage farmers towards adopting commercial vegetable farming.
The foundation had provided special training and agricultural tools to farmers.
The Qatari ambassador hoped the vegetables would be liked in his home country, suggesting farmers in Nepal to maintain freshness and ensure the quality of the produce for future exports.
Last year, the CRFD had provided special training on off-season vegetable production to farmers in Tarakeswar Municipality, Kathmandu.
