Nepal Telecom (NT) has expanded its services at the Korala border, which connects Mustang district of Nepal to the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
According to Santosh Baral, chief of Baglung-based Nepal Telecom office, the services were launched on Tuesday with the installation of BTS towers, enabling 2G and 4G internet and mobile phone services at the Korala trade and transit point.
Tasinrbu Gurung, chairperson of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, noted that the newly available communication services have significantly benefited locals, traders, security personnel, customs officials, and anyone visiting the Korala border.
The electricity facility from the central transmission line was extended to the Korala border point in April last year and became operational shortly thereafter.
Chief District Officer Janak Raj Panta mentioned that preparations are underway to establish offices for immigration, customs, and security agencies in buildings constructed with the support of the Gandaki Province government.
Residents of Lomanthang, Waragung Muktikshetra, Gharpajhong, Thasang, Loghekar, and Damodarkunda rural municipalities in Mustang regularly travel to Nechung-Litchi in Tibet for trade purposes. -- RSS
