Nepal has qualified for the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup for the first time in history.
The Rhinos defeated the host United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 8 wickets in the final match of the Asia Qualifiers on Wednesday, November 13, held at the Seven Districts Stadium in Ajman.
Nepal had to secure the victory by a big margin in Wednesday’s match to book a place in the world cup scheduled to be held in Malaysia in 2025, and the team delivered.
Prior to the match, Nepal was two points behind the UAE in the points table as the host had defeated the visitors earlier in the tournament.
However, the UAE, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, was restricted to 83 runs in 20 overs. Nepal chased down the target in 14.4 overs with the loss of just two wickets, to level the score and top the table with a better run rate.
In limiting the hosts to a meagre total, Krishma Gurung took four wickets. While Rhea Sharma and Seema KC bagged 2 wickets each, Rachana Kumari Chaudhary sent one batter to the pavilion.
For Nepal, Sana Praveen made 35 runs and was the highest scorer for Nepal, followed by Captain Pooja Mahato who made 21. While Soni Pakhreen scored 13, Sabitri Dhami made 12 runs.
Mehek Thakur took two wickets for the UAE.
Only one team among the UAE, Nepal, Thailand and Kuwait was to qualify for the world cup next year.
