Birgunj Customs Office, which facilitates the majority of Nepal’s foreign trade, recorded petroleum imports worth Rs 104.76 billion in the first seven months of the current fiscal year. The imports included diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene.
The import value of petroleum products rose by Rs 840 million compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year when it stood at Rs 103.92 billion. Amit Tiwari, information officer at Birgunj Customs Office, stated that both petroleum imports and revenue collection have increased in recent months.
"The rise in petroleum imports is linked to the ongoing infrastructure construction season," Tiwari said.
The customs office collected Rs 43.11 billion in revenue from petroleum imports in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, up from Rs 38.65 billion in the same period last year.
Of the total imports, diesel topped the list with 581,799 kiloliters worth Rs 51.79 billion, contributing Rs 23.10 billion in revenue. Petrol imports reached 255,542 kiloliters, valued at Rs 22.14 billion, generating Rs 14.49 billion in revenue. Additionally, 182.95 million kilograms of LPG worth Rs 20.90 billion were imported, with revenue collection amounting to Rs 3.91 billion. -- RSS
