Nepal’s public debt has increased by Rs 94.52 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year.
The debt which was Rs 2,434.9 billion by the end of the last fiscal year in mid-July 2024, has now reached Rs 2,528.62 billion, according to the Public Debt Management Office.
The amount is equal to 44.32 percent of the country’s gross domestic products (GDP).
Of the total, the internal and external debt amounted to Rs 1,235.9 billion and Rs 1,292.71 billion, respectively.
At the end of the last fiscal year in mid-July, they amounted to Rs 1,180.9 billion and Rs 1253.19, respectively.
Meanwhile, the government collected Rs 90 billion as the internal debt while it repaid Rs 35 billion from mid-July to mid-September this year.
The government aims to collect Rs 547 billion in public debt in the current fiscal year, according to Under Secretary Prakash Pudasaini at the Public Debt Management Office.
