Nepal faced a five-wicket defeat against Bangladesh in its opening match of the ICC U19 T20 Women's World Cup on Saturday, January 18, at the UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi, Malaysia.
Batting first, Nepal was bowled out for just 52 runs in 18.2 overs. Opener Sana Prabin contributed 19 runs off 32 balls, while Simana KC was the only other player to reach double figures, scoring 10. Bangladesh’s Jonathan Maola led the bowling attack with two wickets, while Anisa Sowa, Foyomodi Choya, and Nishita Akhtar each took one wicket.
In response, Bangladesh chased down the target in 13.2 overs, scoring 53 runs for the loss of five wickets. Sadia Islam led the run chase with 16 off 24 balls, while Sumaiya Attar and Afiya Ashima Ira added 12 and 9 runs, respectively. Nepal’s bowlers, including Rachana Chaudhary, Riya Sharma, Simana KC, and Pooja Mahato, claimed one wicket each.
Nepal is placed in Group ‘D’ alongside Bangladesh, Scotland, and Australia. The team will face Scotland in its next match on Monday, January 20.
Earlier in the day, Australia defeated Scotland by nine wickets.
