The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index, which had seen consecutive gains for six days, declined by 18.14 points on Thursday, January 9, closing the week at 2,635.09.
Despite this drop, the index posted a total gain of 48.99 points over the week, recovering from a 36.88 point-loss the previous week.
Thursday’s session also saw the highest daily turnover of the week, surpassing Rs 7.30 billion. It had exceeded Rs 6.40 billion the previous day.
A total of 15,723,379 shares were traded across 73,309 transactions on the last trading day of the week.
All major indices declined, with the Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices dropping by 0.65 percent, 0.54 percent, and 0.40 percent, respectively.
Two companies – Barahi Hydropower Public Limited (BHPL) and Himalayan Power Partner Ltd. (HPPL) – hit the upper circuit limit to become the biggest gainers of the day.
On the contrary, Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd. (SAPDBL) became the biggest loser, with its share price falling by 9.23 percent.
Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL) led in turnover, followed by Synergy Power Development Ltd. (SPDL) and Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd (SINDU).
Of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, only the Hotels and Tourism Index closed in the positive territory, rising by 0.99 percent. The Finance Index saw the steepest decline of 2.93 percent.
