The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index fell 0.56%, or 14.87 points, on Tuesday, May 13, closing at 2,634.23. This marks the third consecutive day of losses, following a 0.45% decline last Thursday and a 0.47% dip on Sunday.
The market was closed on Monday in observance of Buddha Jayanti, a public holiday.
Prior to last Thursday's decline, the index had gained 2.38% on Wednesday and edged up by 0.03% on Tuesday, breaking a five-session losing streak.
Investor participation too declined this Tuesday, with the daily turnover exceeding over Rs 9.63 billion a decrease from more than Rs 10.20 billion in the prior session.
A total of 21.8 million shares changed hands through 102,445 transactions.
Out of the 246 listed companies traded, only 77 advanced, while 168 declined, and one remained unchanged.
All major sub-indices closed in the red. The Sensitive Index dropped by 0.31%, the Float Index shed 0.33%, and the Sensitive Float Index fell by 0.18%.
Crest Micro Life Insurance Limited (CREST) and Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals Limited (OMPL) hit their upper circuit limits, emerging as the day’s top gainers. On the losing side, Nepal Micro Insurance Company Limited (NMIC) tumbled 6.22%, making it the day’s biggest loser.
Universal Power Company Ltd. (UPCL) topped the turnover chart, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and Nepal Micro Insurance Company Limited (NMIC).
Among NEPSE’s 13 sectoral indices, only three closed in positive territory. The Life Insurance sector led with a sharp gain of 0.95%, while the Trading Index posted the steepest decline, dropping 2.46%.
The market’s total capitalization declined to approximately Rs 4.38 trillion, down from Rs 4.40 trillion in the previous session.
