After a modest 0.03% rise on Tuesday, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index surged by 2.38% (62.25 points) on Wednesday, May 7, closing at 2,673.69.
The index had posted losses for five consecutive sessions prior to Tuesday, slipping 0.04% on Sunday and 0.38% on Monday. In the previous week, it had dropped 0.30% on Wednesday, 0.57% on Tuesday, and 0.54% on Monday.
Investor participation also rose, with total turnover exceeding Rs 10.51 billion—up from over Rs 8.74 billion the previous day. Of the 246 companies traded, 227 advanced, 18 declined and one was unchanged.
All major sub-indices ended higher. The Sensitive Index rose 2.49%, the Float Index added 2.63%, and the Sensitive Float Index gained 2.51%.
Nepal Micro Insurance Company Limited (NMIC) and Crest Micro Life Insurance Limited (CREST) led the gainers by hitting their upper circuit limits, while Butwal Power Company Limited (BPCL) and Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals Limited (OMPL) closely followed with gains of 9.99% each.
On the downside, Nyadi Hydropower Limited (NYADI) was the day’s worst performer, plunging 4.50%.
Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd (SHPC) posted the highest turnover, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd (NGPL) and Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd (RADHI).
All 13 sector indices of NEPSE ended in the green, with the Finance Index leading the gains, rising by 5.47%, while the Trading Index posted the smallest increase at 0.53%.
