The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index ended the day in green on Wednesday, March 12, after slumping for the seventh consecutive session. The index surged by 0.63% or 17.28 points, to close at 2,736.48.
Over the last seven sessions, the index had lost 171.06 points, reversing its previous gains following a nine-day rally that had added 211.78 points.
However, trading volume continued to decline on the fourth trading day of the week, with turnover reaching Rs 8.23 billion, down from Rs 8.31 billion in the previous session. A total of 22.9 million shares were traded across 79,236 transactions.
All three major indices ended in positive territory: the Sensitive Index fell 0.56%, the Float Index declined 0.57%, and the Sensitive Float Index decreased by 0.49%.
Peoples Hydropower Company Limited (PHCL) led the gainers, surging by 9.70%, while Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB) suffered the steepest loss, hitting the lowest circuit limit.
MachhaPuchhre Bank Limited Promotor Share (MBLPO) recorded the highest turnover, followed by Himalayan Reinsurance Limited (HRL) and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN).
Of the 13 sectoral indices, the Development Bank Index and the Microfinance Index ended the day in negative territory, dropping by 0.33% and 0.27%, respectively. The Investment Index posted the largest gains, surging by 1.76%.
