The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped 0.28 percent, or by 7.33 points, on Thursday, January 16, to close at 2,588.62.
This drop, on the week’s last trading day, pushed the total weekly loss to 46.45 points, reversing the 48.99-point gain the previous week.
Daily turnover on Thursday, however, surpassed Rs 5.93 billion, a slight increase compared to over Rs 5.82 billion the previous day.
A total of 11,749,701 shares changed hands through 70,634 transactions.
All major indices—the Sensitive Index, Float Index, and Sensitive Float Index—ended the day in the red, with losses of 0.54 percent, 0.60 percent, and 0.63 percent, respectively.
Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited (BNL), Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB), and Mandakini Hydropower Limited (MHL) emerged as the top gainers of the day, hitting the upper circuit limit.
In contrast, Pokhara Finance Ltd. (PFL) hit the lower circuit limit, becoming the biggest loser.
Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd (SINDU) led in turnover, followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) and Sanima Middle Tamor Hydropower Limited (TAMOR).
Of the 13 sub-indices, five closed in the green. The Trading Index posted the biggest gain of 2.03 percent, while the Finance Index suffered the largest decline of 5.19 percent.
