The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index surged by 0.95%, or 25.89 points, on Thursday, July 10, to close at 2,731.80. It had gained 0.82% the previous day after slipping for straight trading days.
Market activities, too, picked up pace on the final trading day of the week, with daily turnover surpassing Rs 9.68 billion, compared to over Rs 7.45 billion Wednesday.
Trading volume also increased, with more than 26.47 million shares changing hands across 88,615 transactions, compared to 15.82 million shares in 62,884 transactions the previous day.
Among major indices, the Sensitive Index rose 1.62%, the Float Index climbed 1.22%, and the Sensitive Float Index gained 1.68%.
Of the 248 listed companies that were traded, 161 advanced while 87 declined.
Mai Khola Hydropower Ltd (MKHL) was the day’s top gainer, rising 8.15%. Corporate Development Bank Ltd (CORBL) was the biggest loser, falling 9.92%.
NRN Infrastructure and Development Ltd (NRN) led in turnover, with transactions worth Rs 570.58 million. Butwal Power Co Ltd (BPCL) and Sanima Bank Ltd (SANIMA) followed, recording turnovers of Rs 327.35 million and Rs 263.50 million, respectively.
Out of 13 sectoral indices, 11 ended higher. The Banking sub-index posted the biggest gain, 3.02%. The Hydropower Index witnessed the steepest fall at 0.22%.
Total market capitalization rose to Rs 4,551.57 billion from Rs 4,508.43 billion the previous day.
