The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 39.70 points on Wednesday, November 27, to close at 2,756.36 points.
This followed gains of 33.41 points on Tuesday and 15.83 points on Monday, after a decline of 13.03 points on Sunday.
Last week, the index dropped by 68.35 points, reversing the previous week's gain of 68.60 points.
The recent gains reflect renewed confidence among investors following the appointment of Santosh Narayan Shrestha as the chairman of the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON), the country’s capital market regulator, analysts say.
Shrestha was appointed to the position, which had remained vacant for nearly a year.
Trading activity also improved on the fourth trading day of the week, with the daily turnover totaling around Rs 9.31 billion, compared to around Rs 7.44 billion the previous day.
Over 17 million shares were traded through 89,000 transactions during Wednesday's session.
The Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices all closed in the green, increasing by 0.69 percent, 1.09 percent, and 0.70 percent, respectively.
Seven companies—Bishal Bazar Company Limited (BBC), Karnali Development Bank Limited (KRBL), Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL), Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd (SINDU), Support Microfinance Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SMB), Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd (SAPDBL), and Manushi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBS)—were the top gainers of the day, hitting the upper circuit limit.
Green Development Bank Ltd. (GRDBL) and Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL) followed, gaining 9.99 percent and 9.95 percent, respectively.
On the contrary, Mithila Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBBL) became the biggest loser, with its share price hitting the lower circuit limit.
In terms of turnover, Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL) led the list, followed by NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) and Peoples Hydropower Company Limited (PHCL).
Of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, 12 ended in the green. The Trading Index saw the largest gain, up by 9.27 percent, while the Finance Index posted a modest decline of 0.47 percent.
