The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 49.12 points on Monday, January 6, closing at 2,640.68. This marks the fourth consecutive day of increases, following a modest gain of 5.32 points the previous day. After three days of steady rises, the index surged sharply on Monday, to near the 2,650-point mark.
Last week, the index saw an overall decline of 36.88 points, reversing the previous week's gain of 33.88 points.
Daily turnover also saw a notable uptick on the week's second trading day, surpassing Rs 6.30 billion, compared to around Rs 4.86 billion on Sunday. Over 15 million shares were traded across 75,540 transactions on the day.
All major indices closed higher, with the Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices surging by 1.51 percent, 1.81 percent, and 1.52 percent, respectively.
Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ANLB) emerged as the biggest gainer of the day, hitting the upper circuit limit, followed by Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL), which saw a 9.7 percent increase in its share price.
In contrast, Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ULBSL) and Samudayik Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (SLBSL) hit the lower circuit limit to become the biggest losers.
NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN) led in turnover, followed by Sahas Urja Limited (SAHAS) and Peoples Hydropower Company Limited (PHCL).
All 13 NEPSE sub-indices closed in the green. The Hydropower Index recorded the highest gain of 3.55 percent, while the Trading Index posted the smallest increase at 0.46 percent.
