The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 6.16 points on Tuesday, January 7, closing at 2,646.84. This follows a 49.12-point gain the previous day.
With five consecutive days of growth, the index has risen by 70.33 points over this period.
Last week, the index declined by 36.88 points, reversing the previous week's gain of 33.88 points.
Despite the rise in the index, daily turnover slipped on Tuesday. It exceeded Rs 5.38 billion, compared to over Rs 6.30 billion recorded the previous day.
Over 12 million shares were traded across 66,626 transactions on the third trading day of the week.
All major indices closed higher, with the Sensitive, Float, and Sensitive Float indices surging by 0.19 percent, 0.15 percent, and 0.05 percent, respectively.
Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd (SAPDBL) and Nyadi Hydropower Limited (NYADI) hit the upper circuit to become the biggest gainers of the day. Prabhu Mahalaxmi Life Insurance Limited (PMLI) followed closely with a 9.99 percent rise in its share price.
In contrast, Aatmanirbhar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ANLB) and Dolti Power Company Limited (DOLTI) hit the lower circuit, becoming the biggest losers.
Sindhu Bikash Bank Ltd (SINDU) led in turnover, followed by Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd (SAPDBL) and Sahas Urja Limited (SAHAS).
Out of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, four ended in the negative territory. The Finance Index recorded the highest increase of 2.65 percent, while the Manufacturing and Processing Index saw the steepest decline of 0.25 percent.
