A new road track linking Myagdi to Dhorpatan in Baglung has been opened, providing a much shorter alternative to travel to Rukum East than the existing route via Baglung. The road shortens the distance by about 70 kilometers and is expected to improve access to Dhorpatan, a remote and scenic highland region known for its natural beauty and tourism potential.
The new route begins from Benighat and traverses through Darwang, Muna, and Jaljala before reaching Dhorpatan. In addition to benefiting tourism, the road is seen as a lifeline for residents of Mangala, Malika, and Dhaulagiri rural municipalities in Myagdi, who have long faced transportation challenges.
With Rs 50 million in federal funding, the Road Division Office in Baglung has opened a 9-kilometer road track from Mereni in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-2 to Jaljala in Dhorpatan. This extends an earlier 10-kilometer dirt track that had already connected Jaljala to Dhorpatan.
According to Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality’s Chairperson Prem Prasad Pun, this completes around 64 kilometers of road track from Benighat to Jaljala via Muna, Khoriya, and Mereni.
Although dozers have reached Jaljala for construction work, vehicular movement will begin only after leveling and further surface work is completed. Construction on this route had first begun 27 years ago from Beni but had made slow progress over the years.
Locals and officials hope that improved connectivity will support both daily life and economic opportunities in this remote part of western Nepal, where Dhorpatan’s rugged terrain and serene landscape offer untapped potential for eco-tourism and adventure travel. – With inputs from RSS
