The National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ Nepal) announced Monday, March 24, that the 5th National Photojournalism Award 2025 will be held on April 26, coinciding with National Photojournalism Day.
During a press conference in Kathmandu, NFPJ Nepal stated that photojournalists will be honored for their skills and contributions across nine categories, including Daily Life, Sports, Women, Tourism & Culture, Economy, Politics, Entertainment, Open Category, and Overall Photojournalism. Additionally, Provincial Awards will recognize outstanding photojournalists from all seven provinces.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to an individual in recognition of their significant contributions to the field. The recipient will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000, along with a trophy and a certificate.
Eligibility for the awards requires applicants to have at least three years of professional experience in photojournalism. Interested candidates can apply online by submitting a valid media organization ID and five photographs taken between mid-April 2022 and mid-March 2025. The photos must be in 12x18 inches format, 300 dpi resolution, and include captions. The application deadline ends on April 12 at midnight.
The selection committee is chaired by Pradeep Raj Onta, with jury members including Shailendra Kharel (Senior Photojournalist), Surya Thapaliya (Senior Manager, Nepal Tourism Board), Magendra Prakash Giri (Branding & Communication Head, SuryaJyoti Life Insurance), Saurganga Darshandhari (Head of Architecture & Creative Arts Department, Nepal Academy), and Manoj Dahal (Deputy Editor, Desh Sanchar).
Qiuheng Wang and Che Yuan Yi from Yunnan Communication Group from China were also present in the Monday's event.
Initially held annually, the National Photojournalism Award is now organized biennially due to financial constraints, said the organisers.
