Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has increased the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel effective from Tuesday, July 1.
According to a press release issued by NOC on Monday, the price hike follows a rise in the purchase rates received from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the sole supplier of petroleum products to Nepal.
As per the decision of the NOC Board of Directors, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 5 per liter, while the price of diesel and kerosene has gone up by Rs 4 per liter. The retail price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used for cooking, however, remains unchanged.
NOC stated that the latest price list received from IOC on Sunday showed an increase of Rs 7.64 per liter in petrol, Rs 9.13 in diesel, and Rs 6.88 in aviation turbine fuel.
Despite the significant rise in purchase costs, NOC said it has made only a partial adjustment in retail prices to minimize the impact on consumers.
The Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) for domestic flights will now cost Rs 125 per litre, up from Rs 118 per litre.
With the revised rates, petrol will now cost Rs 162.5 per liter in Category I areas, Rs 164 in Category II, and Rs 165 in Category III. Diesel and kerosene will be priced at Rs 146.5 per liter in Category I, Rs 148 in Category II, and Rs 149 in Category III.
NOC classifies its fuel distribution into three categories based on location. Category I includes areas within a 15-kilometer radius of its major depots and offices in Charali, Biratnagar, Janakpur, Amlekhgunj, Bhalwari, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi, and Birgunj. Category II covers Surkhet and Dang, while Category III includes Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Dipayal.
