Nepal Telecom's (NTC) fiber-optic internet service, which has been operational in Khalanga since May 24, is gaining traction in Jumla district. The service has already attracted 1,000 customers in Khalanga, and plans are underway to expand it to the remaining seven local levels of the district, according to NTC's Jumla branch.
Subash Shah, chief of NTC's Jumla branch, stated that existing internet services in both public offices and private residences have been upgraded to high-speed, high-quality fiber connections. Chandannath Municipality alone accounts for all 1,000 current subscribers.
Shah highlighted that the service is in high demand due to its affordability compared to offerings from private providers. In addition to internet access, the fiber package includes telephone and television services, further boosting its appeal among customers for its comprehensive solutions.
The internet service charges vary based on the selected speed.
Separately, NTC's 4G service, first introduced in the district in early 2020, has now expanded to 20 locations across eight local levels. Meanwhile, the 2G network remains operational in seven locations, ensuring connectivity across this high-altitude district. -- RSS
