The government has launched an online labour permit approval service in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This makes Nepal's Embassy in Abu Dhabi the second diplomatic mission to provide such a service, following the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat.
Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security Sarat Singh Bhandari officially inaugurated the service during an event in Dubai on Thursday, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking at the event, Minister Bhandari stated that the government aims to simplify and expand services to make them more accessible and technology-driven, prioritizing the welfare of Nepali migrant workers. He emphasized that online labour permit approval would allow workers to update their documents without traveling to Nepal, enabling them to continue their professions and businesses smoothly. He also mentioned that the service would be gradually introduced in other diplomatic missions.
Highlighting the significance of foreign employment as a key source of remittance, Minister Bhandari stressed the need for contextual policies to ensure the protection and rights of Nepali migrant workers under better migration governance.
Similarly, Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE Tej Bahadur Oli reaffirmed the Embassy’s commitment to safeguarding the rights of Nepali workers and assured that efforts were being made to enhance service delivery despite limited resources.
The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi stated that representatives from various diaspora organizations, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), and other stakeholders attended the event. An interactive session on labour issues was also held.
