The Annapurna Conservation Area welcomed 33,310 foreign tourists in the month of Kartik (mid-October to mid-November), according to the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Among them, 11,678 were from South Asian countries, while 21,632 came from other parts of the world.
Dr Rabin Kadariya, ACAP's project chief, reported that 83,310 foreign tourists have visited the region since the start of the current fiscal year in mid-July. This marks a notable increase compared to the 67,442 tourists recorded during the same period last year. In the previous fiscal year, the region saw 222,180 tourists, and ACAP anticipates that number will surpass 250,000 in the current fiscal year.
Tourist activity has been on the rise since the month of Asoj (mid-September to mid-October), when 30,732 foreign visitors explored the area. Among them, 11,985 were from Asian countries, while 18,747 came from other nations. ACAP noted a significant increase in visitors to popular Annapurna Circuit compared to last year.
Currently, ACAP records data of only foreign tourist. However, a substantial number of domestic tourists also travel to ACAP destinations each year via road and air.
During this peak tourist season, both domestic and international visitors are flocking to major destinations along the Annapurna Circuit. These include Annapurna Base Camp, Mardi Himal, Ghandruk, Tilicho Lake in Manang, Thorang La Pass, Muktinath, and Ghodepani in Myagdi.
Dr. Kadariya added that the second major tourist season is expected to boost tourist numbers even further.
Spanning 7,600 square kilometers, the Annapurna Conservation Area remains a highly attractive trekking destination. According to tourist guide Diwas Gurung, the region's natural beauty, biodiversity, cultural richness, and mountain life make it a favorite among visitors. Trekking routes of varying lengths are available through Kaski, Lamjung, Manang, and Myagdi. The Annapurna Circuit Trek, in particular, is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, well-developed tourism infrastructure, warm hospitality of the locals, and quality services. -- RSS
