The High-Level Economic Reforms Advisory Commission has recommended that the government allow foreign investors to purchase houses or apartments in Nepal if they invest more than USD 200,000.

The commission proposed that investors who either invest or deposit over USD 200,000 in Nepali banks should be permitted to buy residential properties under specified conditions. The aim is to create a more favorable environment for foreign investment by offering residency-linked property ownership.

The commission submitted its report to the government on Friday. Chairman of the commission Rameshwor Prasad Khanal handed over the report to Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel at the Ministry of Finance.

During the submission, Khanal remarked that the country has failed to generate economic opportunities due to several persistent issues, including weak domestic demand, a decline in overall investment, sluggish credit expansion, and reduced real estate transactions.
