Nepal imported petroleum products worth Rs 191.88 billion through the Birgunj customs in the last fiscal year, generating revenue of Rs 80.92 billion.
According to the Birgunj Customs Office, the country imported diesel, petrol, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), and kerosene during the review year.
Although the overall value of petroleum imports declined by Rs 1.94 billion compared to the fiscal year 2023/24, revenue from these imports rose by 10.23 percent — an increase of Rs 7.51 billion.
Chief Customs Officer Deepak Lamichhane said petroleum imports accounted for the largest share of revenue collected by the office. “Revenue at Birgunj Customs mainly depends on imports of petroleum products and vehicles,” he added.
In total, the office collected Rs 80.92 billion in revenue from the import of five types of petroleum products during the last fiscal year, up from Rs 73.40 billion in the previous fiscal year.
According to the office, the country imported 1.15 million kilolitres of diesel worth Rs 99.95 billion last year. This marked a decline from the previous year's 1.05 million kilolitres valued at Rs 105.87 billion. Despite the drop in import value, revenue from diesel rose to Rs 45.72 billion from Rs 42.36 billion.
Petrol imports stood at 453,864 kilolitres, worth Rs 38.72 billion — up from 394,723 kilolitres, though the value declined slightly from Rs 39.02 billion the year before. Revenue from petrol imports increased to Rs 25.66 billion from Rs 22.62 billion.
LPG imports reached 3.19 billion kilograms, valued at Rs 36.37 billion, compared to 2.79 billion kilograms worth Rs 30 billion in the previous year. The office collected Rs 6.81 billion in revenue from LPG imports, up from Rs 5.60 billion.
ATF imports totaled 180,663 kilolitres, worth Rs 16.14 billion — up from 173,484 kilolitres, although the value dropped from Rs 18.21 billion the year before. Revenue from ATF imports dropped slightly to Rs 2.53 billion from Rs 2.64 billion.
Kerosene imports stood at 7,930 kilolitres worth Rs 690 million, compared to 6,820 kilolitres worth Rs 710 million in the previous fiscal year. Revenue from kerosene rose to Rs 200 million from Rs 180 million. -- RSS
