Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to strictly follow the laws while implementing infrastructure projects.
During a recent review of the ministry's performance, the prime minister urged officials not to terminate contracts for ongoing projects that should continue, while also ensuring that contracts for underperforming projects are rightfully terminated.
The prime minister emphasized the importance of abiding by the law, stating, “We have failed to terminate contracts that should have been ended, while projects that should continue have been stopped. We must avoid creating unnecessary obstacles and ensure equal treatment under the law."
He also directed the ministry to focus on timely, high-quality development work, with effective regulation and monitoring.
In addition, PM Oli highlighted the need for a study on the progress of the embossed number plate production and installation project. The Department of Transport Management had awarded the contract to Decatur Tiger IT, a joint venture between Bangladesh and the USA, in 2016. The project aimed to install computerized embossed number plates on 2.5 million vehicles across the country, but so far, only three percent of the target has been met.
The prime minister also called on the ministry to expedite compensation processes for land acquisition related to the railway development project and Nepal Shipping Office. He stressed the need for neighboring countries to provide routes for cross-border shipping services. -- RSS
